A Fine late 17th Century Olivewood Bracket Clock by Richard Lyons, London
The olivewood veneered case with glazed sides, the top with a low caddy to the folding handle and asymmetrical silk lined frets to both doors, the whole raised upon four bun feet. The six inch square brass dial with matted centre, winged cherubs’ head spandrels to the corners and applied, silvered brass chapter ring with Roman hour numerals, outer minutes chapter with Arabic five minute markers, ‘sword-hilt’ half hour divisions and inner quarters, a calendar aperture below XII and delicately pierced and chased blued steel hands. The eight day twin fusee movement with verge escapement, external engraved countwheel to the profusely engraved backplate depicting tulips amongst scrolling foliage being signed in a scrolll cartouche, Richard Lyons Londini, the pendulum having a turned brass bob with brass rod, small apron with knife-edge suspension and pendulum rest to the bottom left hand corner, the movement fixed by a solitary decorative steel bracket to the backplate and two swivel catches to the dial.
