A Striking and Repeating Bracket Clock by Joseph Knibb, London
The ebonised case having a low caddy top with cast mounts topped by a knopped handle, glazed sides, the door flanked by elongated escutcheons and a blind fret to the front, the whole upon a stepped plinth. The 5.25 square brass dial with a matted centre, applied silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, outer minutes, inner quarters and fleur de lys half hours, having cherubs head spandrels to the corners and finely pierced and chased blued steel hands. The eight day twin fusee movement with verge escapement, brass pendulum bob and rod, profusely engraved backplate depicting tulips and signed, Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit, having a small plain, blued steel apron, swan neck pendulum rest and steel repeat arm operated via a cord through the side of the case, the striking train sounding the hours on a single bell and the repeat train sounding the quarters on two further, laterally mounted bells.
