An English Mahogany Twin Fusee Bracket Clock by Ellicott
The mahogany case with a mount set true bell top having brass lined glasses to the sides and back door, the front door with a circular glass surrounded by a heavy, stepped bezel with cast frets to the corners, the whole upon four scrolling, foliate feet and topped by a folding carrying handle. The front door opens to reveal the plain square brass dial mask with strike/silent, the seven and a half inch diameter white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, outer minutes chapter with Arabic five minute divisions, sigend below XII, Ellicott, London and having finely pierced, blued steel hands. The two train, eight day movement with five knopped pillars, having shaped plates and verge escapement, striking the hours on a bell and repeating the previous hour at will via a cord, the backplate profusely engraved and signed, Ellicott, London. Unusually, the clock also retains its original shaped, mahogany and brass lined wall mounted bracket.
This particular style of case, characterised by its round dial set on a square mask, is typical of Ellicott. In its most severe form the case is ebonised with brass block feet and a simple carrying handle, progressing to a transitional style in either mahogany or ebonised veneer, including top mounts together with brass lined glasses and block feet. By far the most decorative form is ably demonstrated in this example with its well figured mahogany case and profusion of finely cast and finished case mounts.
