The case of scarlet-backed turtle-shell veneer onto an oak carcass, the cushion-moulded top surmounted by a gilt-brass, Quare-pattern, double-S scroll handle, set above bold turtle-shell main mouldings. The dial door applied with matching gilt-brass scroll and mask escutcheons to the uprights, the left-hand cut-out for the door lock, and with a pierced turtle-shell sound-fret set into the top rail. The sides glazed to the bottom apertures with further matching rectangular frets above, the glazed inset rear door with D-moulded outer frame. The conforming turtle-shell main base moulding resting on four gilt-brass ring-turned bun feet.


The 7-inch square gilt-brass dial, each corner mounted with gilded and chased winged cherub-head spandrels, and S/N strike/silent lever at III. The silvered brass chapter ring with Roman hours and sword-hilt half hour markers, signed Hen Mafsy London around VI, the outer division with Arabic minutes and conforming half-quarter markers. The matted centre has a mock pendulum to the upper centre and a calendar aperture above VI, with finely shaped and well-sculpted pierced blued-steel hands.


The movement with substantial brass plates secured by five knopped pillars pinned to the frontplate, twin spring barrels with gut lines to the fusees; the going train with verge escapement and short bob pendulum; the hours governed by a rack and snail, striking on a large bell above. The pull-quarter repeat system utilising a large central pin-wheel engaging three parallel hammer arbors and striking on three vertically mounted, graduated, quarter bells, the repeat is activated via a cord to a pulley mounted on the frontplate. The finely engraved backplate framed by a wheatear border with scrolls, flowers and an Indian mask, the lower centre signed Henry Mafsy London within an oval wheatear cartouche.
