Case

The elegant gilt-brass bound, ebonised fruitwood case is surmounted by a gilt bird-of-prey on a pedestal above the bell moulded top with fine quality chased gilt mount to the front with the edges mounted with chased scroll and bellflowers front and back. The main section with pierced and engraved frets to the sides, the front inset with a brass dial surround and integral gilt molded door with a central mount to the lower section, the rear with a solid door. The shaped base standing on delicate chased gilt scroll feet.

Dial

The full arch brass dial with silvered pendulum regulation subsidiary ring above, framed by two chased scroll and eagles head spandrels, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and fleur-de-lys half hour marks with Arabic minutes and lozenge half-quarters. The matted centre with a wheatear engraved mock pendulum below and similarly decorated date aperture above VI, the pierced and shaped hands in blued steel. The inverted shallow arched lower section with a shaped signature plate below VI, engraved Isac Du Hamel London flanked by conforming urn, mask and scroll spandrels.

Movement

The twin fusee movement has five baluster pillars, the going train with pivoted verge escapement and suspended pendulum. The hour train governed by a rack and snail and striking on the larger bell above, while the pull-quarter system, trips the hours and strikes the quarters on a nest of six smaller graduated bells via an engraved pulley to the backplate, which is itself delicately engraved with scrolls, strapwork and a basket of plenty, all within a wheatear border.
