Joseph Knibb London. A Rare Grande Sonnerie Triple Fusee Bracket Clock by this outstanding maker
A fine small and rare three train triple fusee Grand Sonnerie striking bracket clock. The rectangular plated movement with tulip engraved backplate being signed, Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit, having verge escapement with single foot rear cock to the knife edge suspension and pear shaped bob, with large engraved full 12 hour locking plate and smaller quarters locking plate both pierced and mounted to the backplate, 10 turned and knopped latched pillars with triple split front plate. The 6.25 inch square gilt brass dial with matted centre and chamfered calendar aperture with silvered engraved Arabic calendar ring set below XII, with applied gilt brass cherub spandrels to the 4 corners, and complimented by a pair of fine blued steel hands. The ebony veneered case standing 11.75 inches in height with shallow dome top, having typical gilt brass Knibb mounts with Knibb’s foliot tied gilt brass handle and finials. The sides with glazed panels and pierced wooden sound frets above with matched fret to the glazed front door further mounted with typical gilt brass Knibb ‘S’ escutcheons.
