Case | Ebony veneers and mouldings, domed
top, surmounted by a typical thistle
bud handle, pierced ebony frets to the
top rail of the front door with foliate
drop escutcheons, seat board scratch
numbered 252. Moulded base, the front
door sill stamped 252, on block feet.

Dial | 6 inch square gilt-brass dial with three
latched feet, line engraved border
signed Tho= Tompion London below the
silvered chapter-ring, with blued-steel
hands, finely matted centre and wingedcherub
spandrels.

Movement | 7⅛ by 8¼ inch plates with profuse foliate
engraved backplate (G.195) signed Tho
Tompion Londini Fecit in a wheatear
reserve, punch-numbered 252 at the
base. Six latched baluster pillars, single
fusee and spring barrel with knife-edge
verge escapement, Tompion’s silent
pull-quarter repeat via a single cocked,
blued-steel, Z pull-bar.
