Case

The typical Graham ‘mid-sized phase 3’ case is constructed using an oak carcass with ebony mouldings and veneers, it has an inverted bell top, which is surmounted by a gilt ‘foliate-tied’ D-ended handle with rosette terminals. The front door has typical gilt ‘scroll’ escutcheons. The top rail of the door is inset with a finely chased gilt ‘satyr mask’ sound fret and the door glazing is framed by beautifully crafted delicate ebony mouldings – with matching mouldings to the break-arch sides and rear door apertures.

Dial

The fire-gilt dial has silver ‘mask-and-foliate’ spandrels is signed Geo: Graham London and flanked by subsidiary dials for strike/silent and pendulum regulation. The silvered chapter ring has Roman & Arabic chapters and fine quality blued steel hands, the centre has apertures for the mock pendulum and calendar.

Movement

The substantial movement plates have seven knopped and latched pillars with spring barrels and original chain fusees. The going train with pivoted verge and crownwheel escapement and typical mock pendulum with a lenticular suspended mounted on the regulation bar. The strike train is governed by an internal rack and snail sounding the hours on the larger bell, the original pull-quarter repeat system is of Tompion/Graham’s exceptional quality, all-or-nothing type with interlocking double-cocked blued steel levers on the backplate, which is signed Geo Graham London and stamped 712 to the centre of the stepped base.
