A Superior Quality 8 Day Deck Watch by the Waltham Watch Co.
The three tiered mahogany keep box with lacquered brass straps to the edges, complete with its outer carrying case and leather strap, the movement set within gimbals for use at sea, the brass bowl signed, U.S. NAVY 175. The silvered 2.5 inch dial with Roman hour numerals, outer minutes divisions, offset seconds at VI, ‘up and down’ dial, signed WALTHAM WATCH CO 8 DAYS, with blued steel ‘spade’ hands and having a knurled bezel with flat, bevel-edged glass. The movement with two mainspring barrells wound in tandem, the jewels within gold chatons, having a Swiss lever escapement with blued steel overcoil hairspring, split bi-metallic temperature compensated balance, gold timing screws and micrometer regulation, the decorative backplate signed WALTHAM WATCH Co. 8 DAYS, together with a U.S. Navy Department Bureau of Ships test certificate of the U.S. Naval Observatory, Wadshington D.C. dated Dec. 13th 1943.
