English Bracket Clock by Webster of London
This is an important English bracket clock by William Webster of London, apprentice to Thomas Tompion. The beautifully engraved eight day double fusee movement has an exceptional quality verge escapement, rise and fall regulator, pull repeat and a finely engraved lenticular pendulum bob. It strikes the hours on a bell with strike/silent mechanism.
The attractive and rare ebonised fruitwood case has a good original patina with the fruitwood showing through on some of the top panels.
The dial and brass surrounds and feet are of the highest quality and in excellent original condition. The dial and back plate are signed, ‘Wm. Webster, Exchange Alley, London.’ It is complete with the original brass mounted wall bracket.
