Joseph knibb. A Fine Charles II Striking Table Clock
A fine twin fusee English, striking and repeating bracket clock by this most famous member of the Knibb family clockmakers. The two train twin fusee movement with pull quarter repeating system, having tulip engraved floral backplate signed to the centre, Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit. With verge escapement knife edge suspension and bob pendulum, sounding the hours upon a single bell and the quarters upon two further bells. The 6.25 inch square brass dial with matted centre and applied silvered engraved Roman chapter ring, having cast and chased brass cherub spandrels being complimented by a pair of finely cut and blued steel Knibb hands. The ebony veneered case in true classical Knibb form and of his phase three design with applied gilt foliot mounts and typical Knibb handle and ‘S’ escutcheons to the glazed front door, with glazed sides and back. A fine example by this outstanding maker.
