Railway Pocket Watch – An open faced railway watch by Thomas Russell and Son, in a wooden keep case.
The substantial, plain stepped sterling silver case with inner cuvette and gold hinges, stamped inside, TR (Thomas Russell) and numbered 136441. The white enamel dial reminiscent of a Railway Clock dial having large Roman hour numerals, outer minutes chapter, blued steel ‘spade’ hands and signed below XII, Thos. Russell & Son. The fully jewelled, keyless lever movement with counterbalanced pallets, blued steel hairspring and a split, bi-metallic temperature compensated balance with timing screws, signed to the barrel bridge, RUSSELL’S Railway Keyless Machine made lever, the whole contained within a charming brass bound mahogany keep box designed to either hang or stand.
