Unique Table Regulator by Franz Moritz Goedecke.
A unique table regulator by this early and innovative master clockmaker. The two train quarter striking movement being of extremely high quality with a unique and outstanding jewelled chronometer/detent/coupe perdu escapement. This highly fascinating and brilliantly thought out system incorporating two detents, seven jewels, three escape wheels and four counterpoised bars, being a joy to watch and wonder at its invention and the thought process behind such an horological feat, with the added complication of quarter striking on two bells and being signed and dated in script 1833 to the backplate.
The large gilt brass and burnished steel compensated pendulum being double sprung with twin combination rack, left to right counterpoised levers, being designed as a half seconds, but through the escapement beating true seconds via a blued steel centre sweep seconds hand. Two further blued steel hands shown in the normal manner aginst a skeletonised dial centre with silvered engraved brass dial having Roman numerals and signed, Goedecke in Frankfurt A/M.
The impressive case being veneered in solid ebony having finely cast and chased gilt ormolu mounts with Corinthian capitals and Doric bases, having ebony veneered tapering pillars and Greek key pediment.
Franz Moritz Goedecke: – Known to be working in Frankfurt by 1803 became Master in 1833. We believe this example to be his masterpiece, a combination of classical design with a most up to date and astonishing escapement.
