Antique Clocks & Watches

Established in 1947 at 32A The Square, close to the Cathedral in Winchester, our shop has been a magnet for horological collectors and enthusiasts for 70 years.

Our stock reflects the history of horology over the last four centuries and we have a continually changing selection of important and rare clocks and barometers, many by the best makers of their time. You will regularly find clocks by Fromanteel, Tompion, Quare, Knibb, Graham, Mudge, Dutton, Vulliamy, Arnold, Frodsham and Dent but you will also see interesting items by less well known makers.

Our pocket and wristwatch selection includes Tompion, Quare, Breguet, Patek Philippe, Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Cartier, IWC and Jaeger-le-Coultre.

Whether you are a long-term collector or first-timer buyer please do come and see us in Winchester.  Alternatively please phone us or send an email and we will be delighted to assist you in any way we can.

Looking to sell?

We are always seeking to purchase fine clocks and watches, particularly by important makers. We can buy outright or offer a service to sell for you on a commission basis. Please contact us for an appraisal, or send us images of the pieces you wish to sell.  We are always pleased to offer advice on both the acquisition and disposal of horological pieces from single items to complete collections.

In 2015 Carter Marsh & Co. handled the sale of over 100 items from The Tom Scott Collection; universally acknowledged as the most important assembly of horological items to come on the market for over 80 years. As a direct result we have handled more clocks by Thomas Tompion than the main auction rooms combined, including four examples from Tompion’s renowned series of grande sonnerie clocks.

About Us

Darrell Dipper

Darrell was born and bred in Winchester and started as a clockmaker’s apprentice in the company at the age of 15. His invaluable knowledge and experience gained on the bench has given him an insight into the clocks and watches that is afforded to few other dealers. Darrell is a full partner in the business and, as well as being responsible for the Winchester showroom, he was instrumental in the successful handling of The Tom Scott Collection, organising the two sell-out exhibitions in Winchester. Darrell recently discovered and brokered the sale of a previously unrecorded table clock by George Graham.
