Black Marble, Ormolu and Bronze Mounted Timepiece by Vulliamy, London
The black marble case with central drum topped by a plain pediment with a single urn shaped ormolu finial, flanked by two recumbent bronze lions each grasping a golden orb, the front with a matted ormolu frieze with bobble border upon four adjustable feet, having a circular, convex, removable back door. The gilt 2.75 circular dial with engine turned centre, Roman hour numerals, key operated regulator at XII, winding square above VI, outer minute divisions, blued steel ‘heart’ hands and outer ‘serpent’ bezel, being signed, VULLIAMY LONDON. The circular, single fusee timepiece movement with brass retaining brackets and signed to the plain backplate, Vulliamy London, having anchor escapement and pendulum with wooden rod.
The quality of the casting and finishing of this clock is particularly fine, being typical of this highly esteemed maker.
