A rare and small silver mounted repeating bracket clock with alarm, by the most famous of the Knibb family Clockmakers.
The fusee movement having verge escapement with knife edge suspension and pear shaped pendulum bob, having superbly detailed tulip engraved back plate, being signed to a sweeping arc Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit. Having outside ratchet and click for the alarm train, with single bell and double headed hammer for the alarm, using the same bell with two further hammers for the pull repeat. The 6 inch square brass dial with matted centre and applied silvered engraved chapter ring with Roman hour divisions and Arabic five minute divisions, having central silvered engraved alarm disc with Arabic numerals . The corners mounted with foliot cast silver spandrels with floral engraving between, being signed to the lower edge Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit, having alarm stop lever visible above the Roman I. Finished with a pair of finely cut, pierced and blued steel hands. The beautifuly drawn case of typical Knibb form having silver foliot tied handle with foliot chased silver mounts to the caddy top with silver sound frets to the door and sides being glazed below. The silver S type Kinbb door escutcheons with silver hinges and silver pulley mounts to the sides to allow for smooth running of the repeat cords. Having Knibb moulding to the typical Knibb base.
This is one of the most beautifuly drawn and proportioned case styles of Knibb’s Phase III design.
