An English striking basket top bracket clock
A good English twin fusee bell striking ebony bracket clock. The movement of 8 day duration sounding the hours upon a single bell via an engraved outside locking wheel, with verge escapement and short bob pendulum and knife edge suspension. having floral engraved backplate with dressed and chamfered steel movement retaining brackets. The ebony veneered case of good proportions having glazed side windows with gilt sound frets above and matching the gilt repouse silk lined basket. The ornate gilt carrying handle complimented by plain compressed ball finials, with repousse escutcheon to the glazed front door exposing the square brass dial. The dial with matted and engraved centre, with applied silvered chapters and cast gilt cherub spandrels, being finished by a pair of well cut blued steel hands. Both movement and dial unsigned possibly of provincial make but more than likely made in London. A very pleasing and well executed striking English bracket clock.
